A DMU railtour run by the Monmouthshire Railway Society covering rare track around South Wales on Saturday 8th October 1983. Highlights were: Aberthaw power station loop, Clydach, Cynheidre Colliery and Coedbach Washery.
For the pickup at Cardiff Central, thetrain reversed into Platform 9, then in use as a parcels bay, but at one time Cardiff (Riverside) on the branch to Clarence Road.
On the branch from Felin Fran to Clydach Nickel Works, reversal was at the usual location at the run round loop.
There was a hard climb from Llanelli up to Cynheidre Colliery, where BR shunter 08663 was present.
The highlight of the trip was to travel over the newly reinstated connection from Kidwelly to Coed Bach Washery. Here the train stands at the limit for full size stock - beyond lay the height restricted line to Cwmmawr.
