A DMU railtour run by the Great Western Society (Bristol Group) covering rare track in Wiltshire and Devon on Saturday 11th October 1980. Highlights were: Frome-Radstock, Yeovil Pen Mill-Yeovil Junction, Barnstaple-Torrington-Meeth and Meldon Quarry.
The train is seen in the sidings at Radstock. To the right is a rake of wagons freshly out-shopped by the Radstock Wagon Works - the sole source of traffic at this time.
Looking in the opposite direction at Radstock, the platform of the old GW station can be seen in the distance.
A photostop at Yeovil Junction on the South Western main line. We arrived here via the (then) freight-only spur from Yeovil Pen Mill.
The train reached this point at Meeth Clay sidings, at the end of the lengthy branch from Barnstaple via Torrington. The whole line line closed two years later in 1982.
The usually comprehensive Six Bells Junction does not list this tour.
