Rod Mill Rattler
A DMU railtour run by the Monmouthshire Railway Society covering rare track around South Wales on Saturday 23rd October 1982. Highlights were: Tidal Sidings, Cardiff Rod Mill, Taffs Well to Aber Jn, Trelewis, Cwmbargoed, Penallta and Caerphilly.
The train ran past Tidal Sidings and halted at Splott Jn.
The highlight of the tour was the run over the closed line between Taffs Well and Aber Jn. Here the train climbs up the bank past the Taffs Well up branch starter
There was a photo stop at the site of Penrhos Junction.
From Ystrad Mynach, the tour ran to Nelson and then on the former Vale of Neath line towards Treharris. The tour reversed before the connection to Deep Navigation Colliery. The front of the train is standing on Treharris viaduct, almost invisible having been buried under colliery waste.
A reversal and photo stop in the old station at Nelson and Llancaiach.
