Wrexham was a makor railway centre in North Wales, with 3 stations on two distinct lines, and a significant freight staging yard at Croes Newydd. In fact, all it lacked were loco-hauled passenger services, for despite being the largest town in North and Mid Wales, all services were worked by DMUs.
