Specially Allocated Numbers

In 1961, individual numbers were allocated for use solely in connection with v=certain types of trains., which indicated that the trains were running under special conditions:

Breakdown van train or snow plough going to clear the line, or light engine going to assist disabled train.

1X00

Empty coaching stock train to form "Grove", "Deeplus" or "Deepdene".
(Royal train classifications - see below)

1X01

Train running under the conditions designated "Grove".
(Royal train carrying monarch (maximum security: 4 headlamps, bell code 4-4-4, double block, shunt other trains 10 minutes before passage, close public level crossings 15 minutes before, secure all horses, water columns, barrows, etc. and numerous other precautions)).

1X02

Train running under the conditions designated "Deeplus".
(Royal train (intermediate security: as DEEPDENE but double block)).

1X03

Train running under the conditions designated "Deepdene".
(Royal train (lowest security: 2 headlamps, bell code 4-4-4 accepted under standard block, shunt other trains 5 minutes before passage, public crossings 10 minutes, fewer other precautions than GROVE)).

Officers' special train NOT requiring to stop in section.

Out-of-Gauge or exceptional loads: Train which can pass an out-of-gauge or exceptional load similarly signalled on the opposite or an adjoining line.

Out-of-Gauge or exceptional loads: Train which cannot be allowed to pass an out-of-gauge load of any description on the opposite or an adjoining line between specified points.

Out-of-Gauge or exceptional loads: Train which requires the opposite or an adjoining line to be blocked between specified points.

Trolley requiring to go into or pass through tunnels.
